Seven Years and No Itch!

The sevenyear itch is a psychological term suggesting happiness in a relationship declines after around year seven.  I know it usually applies to a marriage BUT for some I think it pertains to their business or their jobs.  When I was working in the non-profit world, I would get the “itch”.  I needed a change.  I wanted something new.  I wanted excitement.

Why am I talking about the “seven-year itch”?  No, I am not thinking of changing direct sales companies.  No, my marriage is great – we haven’t hit the 7 year mark yet.  LOL.

Today is my seventh anniversary with Thirty One.

Struggling with trying to remember BUT grateful I have blogged about this before.  Here is how the story goes…..

See, the truth is I joined Thirty One in 2009 and didn’t do much with it.  Yup, I was a kitknapper. I had a few sales but nothing much and it wasn’t long before I went inactive.

I can’t remember exactly how or why it all happened – God had a plan.  I started following Hope Shortt on Facebook and I read her story.  On February 7th, 2011, I talked with her and told her I wanted to join her Thirty One team. She asked me “what my why” was?  Kind of the standard question when someone joins your team…

I was nervous and being a “people pleasing person” I told her I wanted to earn some extra money.  I had a good job – Chief Operating Officer for a non-profit and who had time for much of anything else.  BUT the truth was, deep down I had a big dream but fear and doubt crept in along with Negative Nellie so I stuffed it down deep.  I started sharing the products at vendor/craft shows, not wanting to do home parties and really not interested in having a team.   Recruiting wasn’t an option because I joined the day before the FREEZE. No, not the weather although it was cold; Thirty One froze enrollment because they were growing so fast.  I was relieved. I had been doing craft/ vendor shows for over 20 years, so it was going to be easy. Hope listened and said she would be there to help when I needed her. No pressure just support and kindness.2014-08-09-18-17-48-4

So started my journey with Thirty One.  I did LOTS of vendor events. Still NO home parties.  Fear and doubt kept me company.   I didn’t have much confidence – I know amazing, right?  This was so far out of my comfort zone.

I got my first TWO potential recruits during the freeze.  I was honest with both of them from the start,  I was going to be learning along with them. Believe it or not, they still joined as soon as the freeze lifted and quickly qualified with $1,000 in sales.  I was now a Senior Consultant. YIKES!  I wasn’t sure what it meant but it was okay.  I was having fun and slowly building confidence.  Then my first home office lead wanted a HOME PARTY! Panic set in… it was someone I didn’t know and I was clueless.  I stumbled my way through it – no additional booked parties or recruits but I had sales and it was kind of fun.

My FIRST Thirty One National Conference was August of 2012.  It was there I set a goal and decided tout my dream on paper and go for Leadership. The goal was to be Director BEFORE National Conference 2013. The stats say those who go to national conference earn more – TRUE! Those who go to national conference – PROMOTE – TRUE! In October, 2012 I DIQed and in January 2013, I earned my $1,000 Director Bonus.  I had gained confidence as a consultant but being a Director brought new fears and challenges.

At National Conference 2013 along with my daughter and members of the Rays of Hope Team. I walked across stage and was CELEBRATED as a NEW Thirty One Director. Tears of joy flowed freely all weekend and continue each time I think back to the moment. Hope Shortt, my National Executive Director, hugged me on stage.  I struggle with memories but the emotion of walking across the stage stays with me bringing me to tears each time I think of it.

Since then my why has changed so much. I no longer work full-time and we rely on my Thirty One business as the second income in the house.  It pays bills and allows us to travel a little bit.  It allows me to work from home as I struggle some days with my MS.

I sometimes struggle with my “why” and learning to DREAM BIG. I still get nervous before a Home party.  I continue to work on personal development because inner gremlins still on occasionally haunt me.  I am blessed with a sisterhood across the country who helps me when I am struggling, who celebrates with me and who encourages me when the struggle is real.  My team continues to grow and inspires me everyday.  They accept me for who I am and have helped me to learn to love me for me.

I would say the biggest blessing from my Thirty One business is the confidence I gained which was lost when I was in HIGH SCHOOL. Yes, I earn FREE products! Yes, I am paying off debt & travel as a result of my commission checks!  Yes, I found a sisterhood I didn’t know existed in my Thirty One sisters! Yes, I have grown in my walk with God, learning to trust and believe his will will be done in my business!

The seven year itch and some vision casting with the Beacon of Hope Team (my upline’s team) had helped me to focus on my why again.  To Make a Difference in as many lives as possible while becoming debt free.  I am being intentional in all I do this year.  I know it is only February but January was a good start…. now to keep moving forward.

A $99 pink box almost seven years ago, CHANGED MY LIFE. Could it be the thing which changes yours?  Till February 28th, you can also join for $1 and I will help you get started…. which would you pick?

Have a ThirtyOne-derful day!

Will You Step Out of Your Comfort Zone?

Yes, it is Monday and we are SEVEN days from Christmas.  Your to do list is a mile long.  Maybe you still need to buy gifts (yup, that’s me) or you need to mail stuff out (yup, that’s me too) or maybe you are totally organized, finished with everything and enjoying the moment (so jealous!).

This is my first week without anything on my calendar as far as events or parties, etc.  I set this week aside to catch up on things personally and get ready for the holidays.  While I am doing things, I have lots of time to think.  I will be driving around in lots of holiday traffic so what better time to start thinking about the new year – personal and business goals for 2018, what will be on my vision board and of course, my word for the year.

Today I want to ENCOURAGE you to put something on your list of goals for 2018 which challenges you to step outside your comfort zone.unnamed-2.jpg

I often talk about stepping outside of my comfort zone but when I look back at the past year, I wonder “did I”?

Was raising the price on my angels out of my comfort zone? YES!  Did it scare me?  YES!  Was I afraid they wouldn’t sell? YES!  The truth was with some encouragement from some amazing ladies, I trusted their business sense and went with it.  It worked.  I may not have sold as many depending on the show BUT customers put more value in the work I did.

When I think of my direct sales business, the biggest step out of my comfort zone was running 95% of my business online.  It really wasn’t scary.  The scary part was locking into a Facebook party style and sticking with it, no matter what.  Did it fail sometimes? YES!  Did it rock sometimes? YES!  Will I continue with the same format? Absolutely!

I say all of this to get you thinking.  When setting your goals for 2018, here are some tips to help you:

  1. Do something which scares you, or maybe even terrifies you.
  2. Do something you have never tried or maybe haven’t done well in the past.
  3. What about the thing you have thought about but put off?
  4. How about trying a new way to party to build your business…like social media and Facebook partying?!

Direct sales businesses are changing every day.  It seems everyone is all about partying online, and growing their social media presence.  Building genuine relationships can be difficult.  I like to TALK to people so building my business online via email, messaging on Facebook and Instragram is really “out of your comfort zone”.  What about you?  What type of activity in your business makes you feel uncomfortable?

Try it!  Go for it, I DARE YOU!!

I encourage you to come up with at least ONE thing you are going to do to step outside your comfort zone and work on. It doesn’t have to be a monetary goal, how much you are going to sell each month, how many parties you are going to have, etc. It can simply be something you are going TO DO or actively be involved in because of your business.  It can be so much more than recognition stats.

So, I ask you:  How are YOU going to allow your business to grow you in 2018, in a way which maybe uncomfortable, uncertain, scary, exciting but could lead to things you could never even dream of?

Share your 2018 goal with us or if you did something like this in 2017 share it with us.  You may inspire or encourage someone else to step outside of their comfort zone.  I’m still working on mine but I will share all of my plans for 2018 with you in between Christmas and New Year’s…

Have a ThirtyOnesh-derful day!

December Kick Off

Did you open your newspaper today to find lots of Black Friday sale circulars, each one luring you their store with unbelievable sales, and early opening?  Yes, I will look at the circulars to see what there is and I might actually venture out in the LATE afternoon to see if there is anything left but most of my shopping will be done online with other direct sellers this year.

Thirty One is kicking off the December customer specials starting TODAY!  These are some of the BEST specials I have seen during the holiday season.  The Littles Carry Alls and the Mini Zipper Pouches for $5 are a great teacher gift.  Fill the Littles with a box of tissues, some hand sanitizer and a gift card.  Or maybe get a mini zipper pouch and add a gift card to their favorite coffee place.

I am most excited about the addition of the Savvy Sleeve, the Glamour Case and the Around the Town tote to the December sale.  The Around the Town Tote is one of the BEST deals.  This bag retails for $78 and did you know you can get TWO bags for less than the cost of just this bag.  Spend $35 (on anything in the catalog) and get an Around the Town Tote for $25.  The BEST part is you can pick a second customer special.  You can pick any one even another Around the Town Tote.

Did you know there is still get FREE and discounted products?  I know you think you are too busy to host a shopping event BUT you can do it in just 31-minutes on Facebook.

I will send you a hostess packet so you can share it with your local friends, family and co-workers. PLUS everyone who orders or hosts a party, will be invited to my VIP Customer Appreciation BINGO event (online) where $200 in FREE products will given away.

So, let’s recap what you get for just gathering 6 orders (all it takes for a $200 party):An average Facebook party (with a little help from you) is about $600 which gives you the chance to take advantage of the December Hostess Special:

How many people could you check off your holiday gift list with the free and discounted products you earn for hosting a party? Maybe even treat yourself to something special.

Have you been crunching numbers to figure out YOUR holiday budget? No time for a part-time job? You work full-time? Are a mom taxi 24/7? What if I told you, you could earn up to $1000 and be able to have a debt-free holiday? Impossible right? You are thinking not enough hours in your day….. I may be able to help with an investment of just $99:

Share the catalog with friends, family and co-workers. You would do it anyway if you were hosting a party, right? Why not get paid to help them do their holiday shopping? What is the worse that could happen? You have ALOT of your holiday gift shopping done with just an investment of $99. OR, you could make some money, earn some free product and enjoy a stress-free (okay, maybe not totally) holiday season.

Which would you like to do?

#1 Shop for the things on the holiday gift list. Spend $35 and get your choice of TWO: mini zipper pouch or little carry all for $5, the glamour case for $10, a Savvy Sleeve for $15 or the Around the Town Tote for $25.

#2 Gather some friends (via online, Facebook, home, or for coffee/drinks). Earn FREE and discounted products.

#3 Join my team and earn money (and products) for a stress and debt-free holiday season.

The choice is yours? Which will it be?

Have a ThirtyOne-derful day!

What Will $1 Buy You?

The Back to School sales have started.  Everywhere you turn there is a sale on school supplies, right?  We rush to Staples (or Target or Walmart) to grab this week’s special for $.25 – $1.00.

Have you ever thought about why a “dollar store” is so popular?  You can now buy anything and everything at the dollar store.  Sometimes we even buy things we don’t need just because it is one dollar.

What if you could start your own business for $1.00?  Seems crazy right?  No risk involved, just the opportunity to earn some money as well as get some FREE and discounted products.  Would you jump on it as fast as you would the “stuff” from the dollar store?

I have been sharing the details in my VIP Customer group for awhile.  Actually as soon as Thirty One announced the opportunity back in July.  See this why it is important to be a part of my VIP group?

Just when I thought this company could not get any better, they offer this AMAZING deal.

Yes, you can actually join for $1.00.  No, you won’t receive the enrollment kit BUT you will get the chance to buy one once you earn some money.

Maybe you are thinking…. I can do what she does. Or, I don’t have time.  Or, I am not a sales person.  Or I could use an extra $300 per month.  The truth is, when I joined Thirty One 6 1/2 years ago, I was a crazy busy COO for a non-profit who commuted 4 hours a day round trip to work.  Yes, I was a crazy lady.  Still am but now I don’t commute.  LOL.

Yes, I made money from the beginning.  How?  I carried and used the products.  I shared it with my co-workers.  I handed out mini catalogs everywhere I went.  Oh, did I mention I was planning my wedding at the same time that year.  I get life is crazy busy – kids, work, family… and the list goes on.

When you join us this month before the holiday shopping season starts,  you get to make some money so you could have a CASH holiday season.  Wouldn’t it be nice? There are TWO options to joining our Thirty One family and the Rays of Hope Team. Check this out..

You join for $1.00.  You invite your friends to your launch party (online or home) and I will do it for you.  You received hostess benefits (FREE and discounted products), you get to keep all of the bookings from the party, you earn commission (25%) and business credit (25%**).

Here are the details on the NEW Start Swell program where you earn credit towards business supplies….

If this was in effect when I joined, I would have had $360 in credit – not bad for a hobbiest or a part time gig.  Yes, I had no intention of doing Thirty One full-time when I started.

Look at what you can earn as a Hostess during the month of August.  Look at this NEW limited edition product available to hostesses for a minimum of a $200 party! But the best part is, if your party jumps to $600 or more, you get this for FREE!  Two bags for the price of one.

I get it.  I have been the crazy momma  but I can help you make it quick and easy!  I will be happy to come to the baseball field.  At the pool – I will come there. No big presentation, just a party on the go – complete in about 1 hour. OR how about an online party? We can do a Facebook party for 31 minutes LIVE or a theme party over 4 days. Lots of themes to pick from with fun and games.

Hostess Engagement

Happy Monday…. No, I am not talking about getting engaged to your hostess.  I’m talking about getting your hostess engaged in the planning process when they book a party – online, on Facebook or a home party.

I have heard it a million times from team members and other consultants, “How do I get my hostess to be involved?”; “How come one is active and the other is a flop?”.  The truth is, each hostess is different and each one will react to things in a different manner.  The trick is to have a conversation with your hostess when you are planning the party.  I know we all “talk” to our hostesses BUT do we ask questions to help us figure out what is best for them.  Are we asking questions but then just going about our usual way of doing things?  SMACK!  Sometimes the truth hurts.

I have made the same mistakes and sometimes fall back into the old bad habits.  I can usually tell the difference in the parties when I ASK questions and LISTEN for the answers then those where I just move along doing the same old, same old.

The goal of the initial conversation is to plan the party with your hostess.  If you ASK these questions and focus on her answers, you will see an amazing different.

  1. What does she want to happen at the party?
  2. What does she want to earn?
  3. Who does she want to invite?
  4. What does she expect of me?
  5. What do I expect of her?

This conversation should happen early in the planning stage, so everyone is on the same page.  I love this sample script from Team Connections BUT be sure to make it sound like you.  It may take some practice till you find the format which works for you…

“Susie, this is Mary from XYZ Company. I am so excited about our party on the 29th. I am calling today to spend about 10 to 15 minutes planning our party. Did I call you at a bad time?”  (I prefer this instead of “is now a good time to talk” because it is never a good time to talk for busy women.  When we ask if I called you at a bad time, you may tell me what you are doing but agree to talk for a few minutes).

“Susie, I want this party to be a great night for you and your friends. What would make it one?”

LISTEN for her answer – not what you are going to respond with.

“Super, to create a night for you, we are a team so let’s work together to make sure there are people attending and everyone has a great time.”

“Is there anything specific you would like to earn as a result of hosting a party?”

17361712_10209094975994699_5796335088731345159_n

Connect this to the number of people and orders required!

“Let’s talk about the invitations. How do you and your friends typically communicate? I still love paper invites and am happy to send them for you. Even if you connect via text or FB, a paper invite lives on the frig and is a great reminder!!”

Even when hosting a Facebook party, I do paper invites.  Many people do not see the invites on Facebook so paper invites gives them a heads up.  At the same time, if they can’t make the party, they have all of the information they need to place an order.

“Having 12 to 15 people in the room is a comfortable and fun number. There will be great energy and no one will feel pressured to buy. To make that happen we will need 20 yeses. Something always happens at the last minute for a few people. It usually takes 30 to 40 invitations to end up with 12 to 15 attending. How does that sound to you?”

LISTEN to her response.  This number could sound overwhelming to her especially for a home party.  It is also to reassure her if there are NOT 12 – 15 people attending, it is still okay to have the party.  Overcome her fears of failing with reassurance of other ways to gather orders to reach her goal.

“It’s my job to help you create the list, so let’s work on it together.”

MAKE suggestions on who she could reach out to.  I also do a VIP invite to at least 5 people who are a “must” be at the party.  These people are sent an incentive along with a catalog to encourage them to help the hostess collect orders.

“I will continue to stay in touch.” (Tell her exactly how often and by what means. Also, repeat any other promises you have made, like sending out invitations.)

“I will be expecting your list on Friday.” (Repeat any other expectations of her.)

“We’re a team, so be sure to call on me if there is anything you need or I can do to make your party a success.”

“Thank you, I’m looking forward to meeting your friends and having a great night.”

Remember hostess engagement is a result of hostess coaching.  It’s all about creating a relationship and forming a partnership!
