What is Your Life Purpose?

Have you ever wondered why you are here?  I don’t mean just in this house? Or in this job? Or with this person/ spouse/ partner?

In the movie The Color Purple, there is a scene in which Miss Celie finally musters the courage to leave Mister. He’d just finished saying some pretty nasty things to her (paraphrasing): “You’re poor. You’re black. You’re ugly. Nobody wants you.”

To which Miss Celie replied, “I’m poor. I’m black. I might even be ugly. But I’m here!”

There is a reason each of us is here.  Honestly, most days I wonder what my purpose is….I’m sure many have lost family and friends who were here last year and who aren’t now.  Many have passed on fulfilling their purpose on this earth.  But you are still here. And your most important job in life is to know why.  I know pretty heavy for early morning, right?

I have been pondering this question for the last few weeks.  What is my purpose in life?  There are days (very few) when I think I know but more times then not, I’m clueless. I could blame it on the MS or the lack of memory or 100 different things but the truth is some days I feel lost.  Torn between what I think I “should be” doing and what I really want to do.  Torn between having the confidence to work my angel business releasing my creativity or just sticking with what I know works in my direct sales business.  Some may say do both BUT my MS requires me to keep things simple.  What about you, do you know your purpose?

Can you state your purpose in a single, simple sentence?  I know I can’t!  If you are like me, ask yourself this question:

How is someone’s life better when they cross your path?

Whatever your answer, is, can you say it quickly – in under 15 seconds.  Why so fast?  Because in most cases we only have a few seconds to share with people we meet.

I believe my purpose is “bringing hope and a smile to those who are struggling, reminding them they are special”. I like to help people.  Maybe it is the people pleaser in me.  Maybe it is just the “helper gene” LOL.  Or maybe it is just the fact someone was nice to me when I was struggling.

For some, it may sound kind of cheesy.  The simple gesture of bringing a smile to the face of others makes a difference in their life (and in mine).  It can make a dark day sunny.  It can dry a tear in their eye.  It can change their negative mindset to positive.  YES!  A simple smile can do it.

Your purpose is about how you uniquely serve the world and make it better in some way. It uses your unique gifts, strengths and experiences. It is something you do well. And it comes naturally to you.  It means you are willing to share your gifts and talents with others.  I am seeing new gifts develop or at least come out again – my creativity in making angels.  Seeing how putting the pieces together to form something wish brings memories to life is so humbling.

I think about my success as a Social Work….I know I made a difference. Some may think I am being conceited but I actually saw the difference I was making.   I am actually humbled by the blessing I am able to give to others.  Even when things are tight for me, there is a way to give back – a cup of coffee, a ride to a meeting, a smile, a thank you – everything makes a difference.

Today, I challenge you to take a few minutes and answer the question….Once you get the answer, write it down. Don’t forget it. Make it your mantra. A fulfilling life is a life lived with purpose.

I believe my purpose is to “bringing hope and a smile to those who are struggling, reminding them they are special and worthy”.

For some, it may sound kind of cheesy.  The simple gesture of bringing a smile to the face of others makes a difference in their life.  It can make a dark day sunny.  It can dry a tear in their eye.  It can change their negative mindset to positive.  YES!  A simple smile can do it.

Changing Your Intent Will Change Your Situation

Happy Monday! You have the CHOICE to make today whether to have a good day or a bad day?  Which will it be? Struggling with the Monday morning blues?  Let’s shift your mindset so you can change the way the day or week will go….

One of my goals every day is to show up in my life – in my relationships, my work, my finances, and with my health.  Am I always successful? NO!  Do I keep trying? YES!  Why?  Because when I continue to show up reflecting who I want to be, I begin to see changes in my life making it easier to reach my goals.

What is challenging for you right now?  Is it work?  Your marriage/ relationships? Finances?  What if you could change the intent to see if it changes the situation.  Pick one area of your life you would like to see a change.

For example, if work is challenging for you right now, you could set an intention for how you want to show up at work:

“My intention is to maintain my calm and peace in the midst of the storm going on at work.”

“My intention is to keep making calls to customers despite the answering machines or negative attitude some may have”

A simple change in your mindset will help you change your response when things get frustrating during the day.  Not sure you will remember your intention?  I know it is hard when you are in the moment of chaos.  How about setting a reminder on your phone (hourly, multiple times, whatever) to remind you of your intention?  Know you are going to be in a stressful situation, set the reminder for about 15 minutes BEFORE the meeting or event to take you mind from the negative to the positive.  I do this on days when I am struggling with depression, it helps to clear my head of Negative Nellie and Doubtful Debbie.

Changing your intention will also change the way others respond to you.  Changing your intention will change how situations unfold.  The best part is changing your intention  is it will allow opportunities to find you. You will be feeding the Universe with your positive energy.  Positive attracts positive, right?

What is your intention for this week?  What would happen if the best version of you showed up all week, you know the one you are proud of?

Imagine for a moment what it would look like to show up as your most powerful, authentic self in whatever situation you are struggling with…. what would change?

Lessons Football Taught Me

8f4ca78b86964fe5a998faf7529b8d37

I know football season is OVER!  😦  I just read an article by Misty Kearns that showed how football and building a successful direct sales business  are similar and I wanted to share my own take on it.

We are a 2 team household – hubby is a Giants fan and I am a J-E-T-S fan.  Despite the fact that neither team made it to the Super Bowl, we are not fair weather fans – we stick by them.  We did cheer for the Carolina Panthers this year since our daughter lives in NC but it was just for the day.

As our teams struggled through the year, we saw commitment and passion at every turn.   Good days and bad days – they were committed till the end.  If you don’t have these two things in your direct sales business, it will be impossible to have lasting success.  Ask yourself:  Are you committed to reaching your goals?  Do you have a long term vision? How passionate are you about what you sell?  Do you have a strong connection to your WHY?  It is the commitment and passion that will keep you going even when you are having a bad season in your business.

Practice makes perfect”, right?  Or at least that is the mantra that I heard growing up.  The truth is that football players are continually working on improving their skills.  That is how they get better, right?  So, what are your practicing or improving in your direct sales business?Without practice, we lose our confidence and miss out on the many chances to grow your business.  Consistency (practice) is the key to success.  That includes a plan for personal development so that you are learning new tricks of the trade.

Every football team, has a game plan that includes a variety of plays that will help them to beat the other teams.  In direct sales, we need a plan so that we can work smarter to get the best results for our efforts.  We set goals (long and short term), have an action plan with milestones, work our business every day by doing income producing activities.  Our plan helps us to focus on the tasks that we need to do.  They are the keys to building a successful business.

Football is not a solo sport. It takes an entire team to win the game. Direct sales is a team effort too.  I think that is what sometimes pushes – the support, the friends and the sisterhood that I am now a part of in my pink bubble.  On my worst days, I can’t imagine my life without these women.  We all have our own business with different whys but we are all working towards similar goals.  We CELEBRATE and ENCOURAGE each other.  Amazing things happen for everyone on the team when we share our strengths, hopes and experiences.

Watch any football game and you will lose count of how many times the players get tackled and knocked to the ground. Yet they keep getting back up and going for more!  They are focused on their goal and doing what it takes to win.  What about you in your direct sales business: do you have  “the winning (positive) mindset”?  It isn’t about that one party or that one sale… it is about the whole month or year put together.  It’s not a sprint, it is a marathon.  If we keep that positive mindset and stay focused on learning, growing, consistency; it will make all the difference in the world on whether or not we reach our goals.

“The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will.” – Vince Lombardi

Powerful Words

1486885_10204468434165298_8263056992245896592_n

Happy Friday!  This week I learned just how powerful words can be and the impact that they can have on your day.

I EXPECTED the week to start of great, I mean it was my birthday, right?  I had visions of what other people would do to make my day special.  Instead of focusing on me, I spent the day supporting hubby and taking my MIL for an outpatient procedure.  The day was shot.  Hubby and my MIL was grateful.  I knew it was the right thing to do.  As I reflect, I am glad that I did because hubby had a rough day health wise. Blessed with birthday wishes from near and far, it wasn’t what I expected and the end result was that I spoke into existence “just another day”.

As I woke up the next morning, I realized that I had missed all of the blessings along the way.  My attention was focused on what I didn’t have versus what I had and so it became “just another day”.  There is power in words and once you speak of something and send it out into the Universe it becomes true whether it is negative or positive.  No, I am not on a pity pot.  No, I am not looking for sympathy.  It is an AHA moment that may help someone else who is feeling a little down because things didn’t go quite the way they planned.

My week got better because my words got better which changed my vision.  Take a few minutes to write down 4 or 5 things that you want, be very specific about what you want and why you want these things.  I am going to be VERY transparent here with my “wants”:

  • I want to enjoy my life looking at the positives instead of letting the negatives effect my relationships.  This will make me happier and my marriage stronger.
  • I want to build relationships with my existing and potential customers, hostesses, and team.  This will allow me to help others while growing my business.
  • I want to learn how to manage my money so that I be debt free from credit card debt.  This why is a little harder for me.  I just know that I need to be a better steward of my money and I am tired of being in debt.
  • I want to maintain my goal weight.  I know in my head that this is for improved health, to eliminate the aches and pains that I have and to live a long life.  BUT I haven’t found an emotional connection to why I want to do this.  I know I should.  I know I like the compliments even though I feel that I don’t deserve them.

Look at all the areas of your life, career, relationships, health, and wellness.  What are your wants?  Are they tangible wants?  Do you feel a tug on your heart when you put those wants on paper?

It is time to take action.  Choose one of the things that you want and create a powerful mantra around this goal. Then say it out loud at least twice a day in the morning and at night. You will continue to say this until you feel it, know it and until it shows up!  Not sure how to create a mantra that is YOUR own?  Start off your mantra with the words “I AM” or “I WILL”.  Here is mine:

I WILL focus on the positives being thankful for each moment.

What is your mantra for today?
