How to Vacation and Leave Work Behind

boss-detox-cover-photo

It is Monday morning and I am still in my pink bubble…..Today is the last day of National Conference.  Have I left work behind while I am here?  Honestly, no because I don’t consider my own business as work BUT I have left behind the JOB!  I can also look like I am on vacation every day because I can take my office to the beach, the coffee shop or to a hotel.

Being away, I get to observe people which is something that I love to do.  Why do people insist on working when they are supposed to be taking downtime?  Did you know that more than half of Americans work on vacation!

Here are some tips so that you can leave your work at home on your next vacation:

1. Plan Ahead

planner pic

We make a plan when we go on vacation, right?  Why not plan to get work done early too?  Take a look at the work that is due while you are away or as soon as you get back.  Put in a few extra house now so that you can reduce your to-dos while you’re away. Wouldn’t your boss love it if you finished a project early? It is possible to finish projects early, just change the mindset.

2. Talk to Your Clients (Your Customers)

When you work for someone else, it is easy to let people know that you will be on vacation and who will be covering for you, right?  When you are a solo-preneur, it may be a little different.  Let your customers, know in advance that you will be taking time off.  Let them know if you will have limited access to social media, email, etc.  I don’t think I have ever heard of anyone being upset that you took a vacation.  Are you a home party consultant, let hostesses know that you need to close parties out before your leave or it won’t happen until after you get back.  Yes, I am the crazy one who worked on closing 7 parties prior to leaving for National Conference.

3. Leave Your Technology Behind

Yes, I said it!  I already can here the million excuses about why you can’t leave it behind.  Okay, you’re allowed to bring your phone, so that you can be available for emergencies. The rest stays in the office. Oh and take the notifications off your phone for email, social media, etc.  I mean do we really need a computer and a tablet with the cell phones that are out today.  It is way too easy to take a quick peek at your work email and then end up 5 hours later not sure where your vacation day went.  You’d be surprised how refreshing a few days without Internet access can real be.  You will feel rested and ready to fully focus on your business when you return.

4. Focus on Your Family

Remember your objective: to reconnect with the people you don’t get to see when you’re working. To that end, plan activities to really maximize your time together.

A vacation is meant to provide rest and relaxation, stay focused on your mission!

Clean Your Closet – Fast

closet

Happy Monday morning!

Were you digging through the clothes in your closet for something to wear today?  Did you resort to the same old outfit because you couldn’t find anything else to wear?

I am a jeans girl through and through.  Lots of jeans and tops that go with jeans.  I realized the other day when I needed a dress/skirt to wear that I had NONE!  Sure, I have summer fun dresses – maxi ones or to go over my bathing suit but I didn’t have one dress or skirt to wear in the cooler weather.  My closet is overflowing with clothes and nothing to wear…. I’m not alone, right?

Do you doubt (like I do) that an organized closet is achievable. It just takes a system.  Yes, there is a system for everything and they actually work!

I have tried these tips from the “beautymom” on how to clean your closet in 10 minutes!  Okay so maybe not 10 minutes but 1 hour tops . Still, no more procrastinating…

The trick is to go with your gut. So let’s get busy with these 4 simple steps and get organized

1. Sort by Category:  Start with one category.  Let’s say tops first.  Move them all out of the closet. Then, as quick as possible, flip through them and give each one a Yes if you’re keeping it or a No if you’re tossing it. Don’t overthink it. Go with your first reaction. You know what you love to wear, so be honest.

Keep: Clothes you love, wear, get compliments on, fit well, flatter your body type and are in good condition.

Toss: Anything that is dated, worn/stained/pilled, unflattering, ill-fitting , or, for some other reason never gets worn.

2. Deal with the Discards:  For me, my discards are in just two piles: Donate Now or Donate Later.  Donate Now are items that are in good condition and ready to go.  Donate Later (I need to do this one more often) is for items that you know need to go, but can’t bear to part with. Stash these items in an inconvenient place, and mark your calendar for 3 months from now. If you don’t go looking for anything in that time, then out it goes.

3. Organize the Rest: With discards out of the way, let’s organize what’s left. I like to organize by the colors of the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo & violet).  Then white is at one end and black is at the end. No, you don’t need a walk-in closet to do it, I actually manage it in my small closet in our bedroom of the condo.  Color coding makes it easy to spot the colors you have and those that are missing.

4. Repeat:  Now, it is time to repeat these 3 steps for each category of clothes in your closet.  Mine is easy because I only have 2 real categories – pants/jeans and tops.  Yup!  Time for this “shabby chic” momma to do some shopping.

Cleaning out your closet can be simple, but it’s not always easy.

Unloved, unworn clothes are like dead weight, that drags you down every time you open the door to your closet.  Practice some self-love by freeing yourself from them, then organize the clothes you love in a thoughtful, personal way.

This is a gift to yourself that can help you change your outlook each day by simply getting dressed.  By feeling good in what we wear, we are attracting positive energy into our lives.

Technically Challenged

Happy Monday!!!  Yes, I am one of those crazy people that actually LIKE Mondays.  For me, it is the kick off to a new week with a new list of tasks to accomplish.

Over the last several weeks, I have found myself identifying as “technically challenged”.  Lately, it is more the case then ever.  With the start of the new year, many of my Thirty One sisters have been sharing things that help them in their business.  YIKES!  Technology plays a big part for many of them.

Now, I am old school – pen, paper, planner, etc.  I do have the calendar on my phone and computer synched together but they only work if you add the information to them.  I usually find that I have put an appointment on my phone but not in my planner or vice versa.  The end result – I need to have both in front of me to get any work done.

This week, I want to share with you some apps and tips that I have learned that may help you in your business.  For those of you who are tech savvy this may seem VERY basic.  I believe that there are a lot more technically challenged people out there and they are just a little embarrassed to admit it.

The first app/program that I have semi-conquered is pic monkey.  This is SOOO user friendly.  It is a great program to make flyers, Facebook covers, collages, etc.  I used it to make my Superbowl Ladies Party flyer:

I will admit, it took me a little while and it may not be perfect BUT I did it!  Thank you Tina for allowing me to copy your idea.  If I can do it, so can you.  I haven’t gotten the Facebook cover thing down but I will keep at it until I have the sizing right.

The next one should have been a no-brainer for me… Google docs and Google drive.  UGH! If you have a gmail account, you have access to BOTH of these apps.  I had NEVER used them.  Thank you Melissa Fietsam for sharing this with us.  I did my Birthday survey with google docs.  It was so EASY.  If you haven’t filled out the survey, please click the link so that I can CELEBRATE you during your special month.  Then I save all of my standard letters and forms to Google drive.  I was super excited when I was able to pull the information up on my phone.  I could then copy and paste the information into an email or into a Facebook message.  It is the little things that get me excited and make me a……

happy camper

Like I said, I am technically challenged but willing to learn.  If you haven’t used either of these, give them a try.  We will conquer this technology thing together.

Have  a ThirtyOne-derful day!
