3rd Annual Chemo Care Totes Campaign

When I began my journey with Thirty One in 2011, my goal was to make a difference.  My spiritual gifts as “helps and encouragement” so I want to continue to do just that!

Today is the kickoff of my “3rd Annual CHEMO CARES TOTES” Campaign.

Here is the message I received from last year’s recipients:

Wanted to let you know I have handed out all of the beautiful bags you had donated for women battling breast cancer. Each person loved the bag and it put a smile on their face to know someone was kind and providing a sense of support as they started their chemotherapy treatments. Thank you again for supporting our patients.

Yes, I cried!… Now, I get goosebumps every time I read this.  Cancer has touched each of us in someone way – a friend, a family member, a sister, a mother, a father, a child, and the list goes on.

This project is near and dear to my heart.  It is a tribute to my family who fought a good fight against this dreaded disease and lost: Edythe (kidney cancer), Elsie (breast cancer), Pop-pop (lung cancer) and the most recent angel, my dad (prostrate cancer). I spent many hours in the Oncology Units with Elsie and Edythe as they underwent chemo treatments.  I held their hand when they struggled with the insertion of the needles in their pic line.  I was there when they were sick from the chemo and sat by their bedside when they were too weak to go out.  As a friend said #cancersucks.  It takes many from us long before their time.  It ravages families.  It leaves children parentless.  It has parents burying children way to soon.

Recently due to my own health struggles, I have spent many hours in the infusion units of the local hospitals.  I am blessed to only have to be there a short time – time for blood work and special testing.  The many women I have seen are not there for a one time visit, they are there for weeks of painful treatments.  They smile and carry on conversations  while encouraging each other.  My heart breaks and the tears come each time I leave the unit for I know what their struggles are like.

Your gift/ sponsorship of $25 will pay for the bag and I will use 100% of my commission to fill them with a variety of things like a blanket/scarf, notepad, pen, bottle of water, lotion, warm socks, chap stick and crossword puzzle book. Donations will again be delivered to the local Cancer Care Center to bring a smile to the face of those who are fighting this dreadful disease.

chemo bagsLast year, we delivered 31 bags to Southern Ocean Medical Center. This year, my goal is again 31 BUT I would love to make it 50.  I know it is a HUGE jump but I am confident we are up for the challenge. So, who is with me? For $25 you can bring a smile to someone who is fighting the cancer battle.

You can sponsor a bag in memory of someone, in honor of someone or just anonymously. Payments can be made via check or through Paypal at hopesgiftcloset@@comcast.net as a friend/family. I can also accept credit card payments directly.

Won’t you help to make a difference today?

Father’s Day Gift Ideas

Today is all about gift ideas for your dad (or your hubby or the soon to be dad or someone who has been like a dad).

Thirty One has a variety of items for the men in your life….from backpacks to thermals.

We have Camo, Digital Camo, Blue Crosshatch and Charcoal Crosshatch. Check out the Cinch Sac, Picnic Thermal (will hold 2 6-packs of beer) the Around the Clock Thermal (lunch or a six pack of beer), the Deluxe Utility Tote, the Large Utility Tote (on special for $10 with a $35 purchase) and the Zip Top Organizing Utility Tote.

How about a bundle of products from Simple Man?  Great for the graduate as well as the man in your life.  This bundle includes: 1 Travel Bag, 1 Body Balm, 1 Body Wash, 1 Shampoo, 1 Conditioner, 1 Deodorant, 1 Bamboo Toothbrush and 1 Peppermint Toothpaste.  You can also do a “auto ship” for your collage bound student so they never run out.  I have used these products too and LOVE them.  So, they aren’t just for the man in your life -you can enjoy them too.

The best gifts are those which are home-made….In going through my dad’s things, we found two things in the fire proof box along with his important papers.  They were a letter I wrote him one Father’s Day when we didn’t have any money to buy gifts AND a poem Belinda had written the same year.  I will admit, I was surprised and really didn’t remember it but it showed just how special it was to him.

On a budget, check out some of these cool gifts:

Don’t spend much time with your dad – carve out some time jut for him.  For many years, Father’s Day was just one of the two holidays we spent with my dad.  There really weren’t presents because we didn’t have the money but the gift of time (no electronics) was the best gift of all.

Make your dad’s favorite meal or something special just for him.  Write a letter or a poem or record a song – share your heart with him,  Make him a picture, a mug, a card or anything to show how much you care.

No matter what it is you give – give from your heart.  What are you giving to your dad or the special man in your life this year?  Share your gift ideas with us – we can always use some more.

Diaper Bag and More

I can’t count the number of times I have been asked “Does Thirty One have a diaper bag?”   I think back to when Belinda was little (MANY years ago) and I’m not even sure I had one.  I’m sure I did but it was probably the same bag I sent her to daycare with Monday through Friday.  Even back then I was practical (okay, sometimes).  I wanted a bag I could use for many things, not just one use and then giveaway, sell or toss.

Thankfully, Thirty One has SEVERAL options to meet the different needs of new moms.  From the busy mom on the go to the working (out of the home) mom.

It is all about your style…. We have lots of different totes to meet whatever the demand including ones Dad is willing to carry.  Here are some basic options:

The  Number 1 requested “diaper bag” is the Zip Top Organizing Utility Tote.  It has seven pockets for all your essentials, plus a convenient zipper to keep everything safe and secure!

My favorite is the Cindy Tote.  This signature tote can hold almost anything. Named after our Founder, President & CEO, Cindy Monroe, this has been one of our most popular totes for years. It’s roomy enough for all your essentials and stylish enough to carry wherever the day takes you! Easy to transition from Baby to Momma!

For those who would prefer a Backpack, we have you covered with the Going My Way Backpack.  Get ready for school, work or a family outing with this roomy backpack featuring plenty of pockets and adjustable shoulder straps for a comfy fit. The simple design and choice of prints makes it perfect for moms, dads and kids, too!

Did you notice these can be personalized too? The best part is when you don’t need a diaper bag any more, it is still a GREAT bag to use every day.

Looking for something a little smaller to take on those short trips to the park?  Why not try the Sling-Back Bag?  So easy to grab and go, this bag offers a great hands-free backpack option, and one shoulder strap can easily be converted for right- or left-handed use. Put the pockets to work to house all your essentials, and you’re set for the day.

So, which bag will meet your needs?  Not sure, let’s talk.  Send me a message and I will help you decide which one will best fit your needs.

Organizing Your Home

5

The first week of the New Year and you are already wondering HOW you are going to accomplish this resolution, right?  It seems overwhelming – new toys for the kids, new clothes, buying seasonal decorations when they are on sale… you get the picture, right?

Now is a great time to create or fine-tune your household systems.  Getting organized doesn’t mean that your house will look perfect all of the time.  Getting organized doesn’t automatically mean the kids will put their toys away.  What it does me is that there will be simple systems in place that will keep you from wanting to declare

outoforder-mom

Here are three of my favorites:

  1. Create a family command center.  You’ll need a monthly family calendar with everyone’s activities on it including Mom and Dad’s.  Color code each family member and write in all activities, parties, birthdays, travel, homework assignments due, etc. This can be a big paper calendar or a white board calendar that’s wiped clean and started over every month. It can hang on the wall or on the side of the refrigerator.  Hubby and I do this now even though it is just us.  It makes life so much easier.  You can keep pens, paper, scissors, tape, etc. in the drawer and it gives the family a place to put their activity schedules and party invitations so you can get them on the calendar right away. You can also use the space to make your grocery list. This becomes the hub for your family and you’ll be on top of their activities.

2.  Let the kids help!   Okay, so maybe it won’t be done exactly the way you want.  Maybe you will need to practice patience since I am sure they won’t move as fast as you want them too.  Let the younger kids pick up all the recyclables i.e. papers, magazines, plastic bottles and put them in the recycle bin.  As they grow, they can help load and unload the dishwasher. You can stop laughing now!  It is possible for this to happen  🙂  How about a place for back packs, jackets, shoes and school work.  This will save you HOURS of hunting every morning.   You’ll need is a small place to hang some hooks and some shelves. Even a small peg board with shelves under it helps control the clutter.

3.  Have a dedicated space to work.  I know that not everyone has an extra room to turn into an office.  I began my first craft business with a small table in the corner of the living room.  It definitely was not perfect, yet it worked. Maybe you  have a big closet you can turn into a work space.  It doesn’t matter where it is; it just needs to be dedicated space for you and your business.

Diaper Bag and more

casual cargo winner

I am always asked “does Thirty One have a diaper bag?”  The truth is we have SEVERAL options to meet the different needs of new moms – zip top organizing utility tote, the Cindy tote, the retro metro bag….AND the #1 choice by moms is the Casual Cargo.  Don’t believe me, check out www.babycenter.com.

This AWESOME bag has two exterior pockets with magnetic closures which is the perfect spot for your keys and cell phone.  No need to go digging around in your bag when you are juggling the baby.  The inside has LOTS more pockets including a zipper pocket, 2 flat pockets AND 2 elastic side pockets which are great for bottles or containers of snacks.  Top it off with a zipper closure and you are ready to hit the road with a stylish, yet functional diaper bag.  Did I mention that you can have it personalized too?  The best part is when you don’t need a diaper bag any more, it is still a GREAT bag to use every day.  If you are more visual, the dimensions of the bag are: Approx. 13”H x 14”W x 6”D.  Roomy but not HUGE.

The next question is – “Is it washable?” I have to admit that the company does not recommend washing this item.  They do recommend wiping it with a damp cloth using mild soap only and then air drying.  I will tell you that I have customers who have tossed this into the washer on a gentle cycle and air dried it who give it rave reviews when all is said and done.

At a cost of $65, this durable, fun, functional and stylish bag is the perfect gift for the new or soon to be mom.  If you want to see this product up close – contact me for a product experience (one-on-one product showing) or have a home party where you can get all the things you will want to keep the new nursery neat and tidy…
